All About First Grade: Writer's Celebration Posters

Every year, students in first grade host a writer's celebration to show off all the wonderful writing they have done in their writer's workshop. Last year, the students created postets in art class to be displayed alongside their writing. It was such a hit that we decided to do it again this year! Students in Mrs. Rupert's class were the first ones to start their posters.

Winter Family Art Night at School #6

Things have gotten so busy these past two weeks that I almost forgot to post about the wonderful Family Art Night that we had at School #6!
We had several fun act activities, but I think the hit of the night was definitely the shaving cream paper marbling. Thanks to everyone who came out for a night of family art fun!

Don't go to School #6? There will be a Family Art Night at School #4 sometime in May. Stay tuned for details!

And don't forget about the upcoming art shows!!! Check the Art Events tab at the top of the blog to see what day your school's art show will be. Remember: April is Art Month!
At the Stamping Station!

Colors, colors everywhere: 4th grade color wheel

Students learn about color every year. In Kindergarten they are introduced to the concept of primary (red, yellow, blue) and secondary (purple, green, orange) colors. From there students go on to learn about warm and cold colors, monochromatic colors, and in 4th grade they are introduced to tertiary colors (colors created by mixing primary and secondary colors).
For this projects, students used only toe three primary colors to create the 12 standard colors in the color wheel. Once all their colors were mixed and painted onto their papers, students were asked to draw a symbol of something they like, something that would represent who they are. Students traced the symbol onto each color and will eventually cut out and mount all the pieces to make their own color wheel.

Booooooom! pencils: being a part of a worldwide art project

One of the great things about living in the 21st century is the way we can connect with people all across the globe. Students in Ms. Iskenderian's third grade decorated pencils for the the international art project call "Line Segments". The contemporary art blog Booooooom! and the Vancouver based art studio Tangible Interaction have created a simple pencil connector using a 3D printer. They are going to build a sculpture out of pencils and have asked people from all over the world to send them some! This is a great opportunity for students to collaborate not only with each other but with other artists internationally.
Want to decorate and send in your own pencil? Find out all the details here
